Piedmont Augusta Hospital provides our patients with someone specifically trained to help with the non-medical aspects of your cancer care. The cancer liaison at Piedmont Augusta Hospital is a licensed master social work and certified oncology social worker who will provide assistance, including:

  • Coping with the emotions and changes that result from a diagnosis of cancer and its treatment
  • Connecting people with support groups and peer support programs
  • Addressing financial, insurance, disability and employment related concerns
  • Finding caregiver support
  • Making referrals to community resources
  • Exploring options for cancer-related transportation and temporary housing

You may want to speak with the cancer liaison if you have questions or concerns about:

  • Feeling stressed and overwhelmed
  • Adjusting to life with a diagnosis
  • Not having the support you need
  • the financial impact of your illness/treatment
  • intimacy, sexuality and relationships
  • talking to your children about your diagnosis
  • How you will get to and afford treatment

Cancer Liaison services are free, can be provided in person or over the phone, and do not require a referral from a physician or medical team.

If you have an issue you would like to discuss, call 706-774-4141 and ask to meet with the cancer liaison.

Breast Cancer Survivorship Program

We at Piedmont Augusta want to make sure that you have the support and guidance you need as you transition from active treatment to “surveillance.” That’s why we provide our breast cancer population with a survivorship nurse.

What does the Breast Cancer Survivorship Nurse do?

The Breast Cancer Survivorship Program offers a personalized treatment summary and survivorship care plan to survivors with a Stage 0 - Stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis. These individualized care plans address each survivor’s individual needs.

At the end of active treatment, you will be contacted about setting up an appointment with our Breast Cancer Survivorship Nurse. During this appointment, you will receive:

  • A written record of your cancer treatment
  • Individualized follow-up recommendations
  • Recommendations on how to stay healthy
  • Time to discuss your diagnosis and the treatments you have completed and ask questions

Your survivorship care plan and appointment are a free service to you.

Piedmont Augusta Breast Health Center Accreditation

The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers has accredited Piedmont Augusta's Breast Health Center for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of quality breast care and undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.
