AUGUSTA – Ga. – Oct. 30, 2007 – More than 1,800 walkers filled the Augusta Common Oct. 20, 2007 to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer early detection initiatives.
With walkers’ entries still trickling in, this year’s Miracle Mile Walk, sponsored by University Health Care Foundation, is expected to raise $140,000, according to Pam Anderson, R.N., Cancer Services program coordinator at University Hospital. The funds help underinsured and uninsured women receive screening mammograms and other services through University’s Breast Health Center. The Miracle Mile Walk is the only area walk in which 100 percent of the net proceeds stay in the community to support the needs of patients.
More than 100 breast cancer survivors wearing pink sashes served as honorary starters of the 3-mile walk through downtown Augusta.
