Evans Imaging Center and Medical Office Building Dedicated
EVANS, Ga. – Feb. 21, 2008 – More than 200 physicians and community leaders attended a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony tonight for the area’s largest and most comprehensive imaging center and medical office complex.
The state-of-the-art Evans Imaging Center offers digital mammography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computerized Tomography (CT) scanning, Ultrasound, X-ray and Fluoroscopy. All images are secured in digital storage through the Picture Archiving System (PACS), which means all images are available instantly and can be seen by patients' private physicians from anywhere they have secure internet access – often saving valuable time in beginning treatment.
“We are tremendously excited about what this means for patients in Columbia County,” said. H. Bradford Jones, M.D., of Brown & Radiology Associates.
Office space in the building is ready to be completed per the specifications of interested physicians, said Kyle Howell, vice president of Support and Facilities Services for University.
“Planning a project of this magnitude takes a tremendous team of professionals,” Mr. Howell said. “Our expectations were very high. No matter how many times I do this, it is always fascinating to see it come together. And no project I’ve worked on has come together more smoothly than this one -- right down to the beautiful brick work on the parking deck.”
The building features the area Evans Towne Center architecture. It is 60,520 square feet and was a $13.4 million investment. It features a covered walkway to the neighboring Medical Office Building 3 and a 240-space parking structure – Columbia County’s first.
“University’s commitment to Columbia County is long-standing,” explained J. Larry Read, president and chief executive officer of University Health Care System. “Over 20 years ago, University invested in this 68-acre property, anticipating the growing health care needs of Columbia County. We continue that commitment today.”
Since then, University's Evans campus has grown to include the following:
- Brandon Wilde, a nationally recognized retirement community
- Surgery Center of Columbia County
- Sleep Center
- Prompt Care
- Westwood Nursing Home
- Occupational Medicine services
- Four Medical Office Buildings
- More than 20 private practice physician groups
- Speech and Hearing Center
- State-of-the-art Imaging Center
Ron C. Cross, chair of the Columbia County Commission, praised University for its continued investment in Columbia County.
“One of the necessities for community growth is a strong, accessible health care component,” Mr. Cross said. “We have that with University and we just value their commitment.”
