Salon Supports Breast Cancer Care for Underserved Women
AUGUSTA – Dillard’s Salon at Augusta Mall raised $1,086 to be donated to University Hospital Breast Health Center to help with screening mammograms and other services for underinsured and uninsured women.
The annual “Cut for a Cause” event drew more than 100 clients who had haircuts and manicures supplied by the 10 stylists who donated their talents on their day off, according to Salon Manager Martha Connor.
“We want to thank everyone very much for participating in the Cut for a Cause event,” Ms. Connor said. “It is our pleasure to participate in an event where 100 percent of the proceeds stay in Augusta to benefit women in our community. We want everyone to remember that we have this wonderful event every October.”
University’s Breast Health Center offers a comprehensive array of well-coordinated breast health services, including education, diagnostic testing, treatment options and support. When people are diagnosed with breast cancer, the Breast Health Center can help them through treatment and follow-up support. Providing care with dignity in a supportive environment is the first step to restoring health.
Buddy Check 6SM
University's Buddy Check 6 breast health education program provides ongoing classes on breast self exams (BSE) and promotes early detection through BSE, annual clinical exams and mammography. The program encourages women to choose a buddy to help them remember this important three-step approach to early detection of breast cancer.
University's Mobile Mammography Unit is helping to eliminate barriers by making it faster and more convenient for women to have a screening mammogram. Equipped with state-of-the-art digital mammography in a comfortable setting, the unit visits area businesses and industries to offer screening digital mammography to employees who might not otherwise schedule this potentially lifesaving test. Yearly mammograms are covered by Medicare and most insurance companies.
