University Health Care System Campuses Go Tobacco Free
Augusta, Ga. – Nov. 20, 2008 – As of Nov. 20, University Health Care System is tobacco free.
Smoking or using tobacco products anywhere on University property will be prohibited for everyone – staff, physicians, volunteers, visitors and patients, according to Cheryl Wheeler, University’s Cancer Services spokeswoman. The new policy took effect Thursday, Nov. 20, in conjunction with the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout.
“The decision to go tobacco free was an extension of our mission to help develop and maintain a healthy community,” Ms. Wheeler said. “The use of tobacco products runs counter to University’s commitment to providing a healthy environment for employees, patients and visitors.”
