University Holds da Vinci Surgical System Open House
Chris Martin, director of Surgical Services, explains how University's new da Vinci Robotics Surgical System works at a demonstration event on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
February 6, 2009 (AUGUSTA, GA) – More than 100 physicians and staff members were able to try their hands at using University Hospital’s da Vinci Robotics Surgical System on Jan. 20. Those who attended were able to see first-hand how the system works and operate the system in a demonstration mode.
University has the most-advanced da Vinci® Surgical System in the region. The da Vinci® system provides surgeons with an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy, putting a surgeon's hands at the controls of a state-of-the-art robotic platform. The da Vinci system enables surgeons to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision.
For the patient, benefits may include:
- Significantly less pain
- Less blood loss
- Less scarring
- Shorter recovery time
