Two Vascular Surgeons Join University Hospital

August 21, 2009 (AUGUSTA, GA) – University welcomes two new physicians to the Heart & Vascular Institute. Robert Mendes, M.D., and Houman Tamaddon, M.D., came to University in August from a world-class vascular disease program at University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill. They are partners in a new practice, University Vascular Specialists located in Professional Center 2.
Robert Mendes, M.D.
A graduate of the University of Miami School of Medicine, Dr. Mendes completed his residency in General Surgery, then went on to a fellowships in Vascular Surgery and Interventional Radiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He stayed on at UNC as an Assistant Professor in Vascular Surgery for five years prior to joining the University Health Care System as the Medical Director of Vascular Services at the Heart & Vascular Institute.
Houman Tamaddon, M.D.
Vascular and Endovascular Surgery
A graduate of the University of Rochester in Optical and Laser Engineering, Dr. Tamaddon pursued his interests in medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York while also performing research in the Institute for Cardiovascular Research developing detailed intracardiac optical imaging. He attended the University of North Carolina Hospitals for internship and residency in General Surgery and a fellowship in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. He recently joined University Hospital as Medical Director of the Peripheral Vascular Lab.
