UHCS joins ranks to help the hungry this holiday season
(AUGUSTA, GA. – Nov. 3, 2009) The annual It’s Spooky to be Hungry food drive got a significant boost from University Health Care System on Friday, Oct. 30, when more than 14 barrels and 14 boxes of food were collected from a number of UHCS facilities.
A grassroots organization, It’s Spooky to be Hungry began in the CSRA in 1995 and provides food and monetary contributions to Golden Harvest Food Bank, which handed out more than 12 million pounds of food to those in need last year.
At University Hospital, departments filled donation barrels and boxes; even setting up decorations around the drop-off spots to draw attention to the food drive. According to Golden Harvest, more than 1,300 pounds of food was collected at University Health Care System.
