Helipad Construction Nears Completion

AUGUSTA, GA. (Jan. 8, 2010) – Construction of a new helipad and elevator outside University Hospital’s Emergency Department is on schedule, despite some wet weather in December, said Vice President of Support & Facilities Service Kyle Howell.

“We are on schedule for a handover date in late February,” Mr. Howell said.

The helipad will allow Gold Cross medical helicopters to bring patients directly to University for emergency treatment. This will especially benefit heart attack patients in outlying areas, Mr. Howell said. Currently, medical helicopters land at Daniel Field and patients are transported to University Hospital by ambulance.

Meanwhile, the total renovation of first floor hallways that connect the main lobby to the Heart & Vascular Institute are nearing completion. The project should be finished by mid-January, according to officials with University’s Plant Engineering Department.
