Annual Event Honors Local Cancer Survivors
AUGUSTA, Ga. – June 4, 2010 – National Cancer Survivor’s Day honors an estimated 12 million cancer survivors in the United States, their caregivers and those who advocate for them. They overcome great obstacles and persevere through difficult times. This day is to celebrate their achievements.
University Hospital honors local survivors every year with its Annual Cancer Survivor event, and more than 600 people attend the annual dinner June 4 at the Augusta Marriott Hotel. The guest speakers were Roger and Kathy Cawthon, who were diagnosed with cancer within six weeks of each other, and following more than a year of aggressive cancer treatments, this dynamic husband-and-wife team celebrated their survival by completing the grueling 26.2-mile Marine Corps Marathon. Their life-altering experience is the platform from which they launched The Cancer Crusade.
The Cancer Crusade's keynote presentations and seminars bring in rave reviews from medical professionals, survivors and caregivers alike. Their frank, hilarious take on the world of medicine blends seamlessly with a powerful message that energizes and inspires audiences to laugh, love and live in the moment.
