University Health Care Chosen Hospital of Choice for 11th Year
AUGUSTA – Ga. – Oct. 12, 2009 -- The National Research Corporation (NRC) has named University Health Care System the Consumer Choice Award winner for best overall quality and image in the region for the 11th consecutive year.
The Consumer Choice Award is based on an independent survey of consumers conducted by National Research Corporation (NRC) to recognize the most preferred hospitals in metropolitan areas across the country. University is one of an elite group of hospitals nationwide, and the only one in the region, to win the award each year since 1999.
“Our employees, physicians, volunteers and board members work hard every day to make a difference for our patients and the community,” said J. Larry Read, president/CEO of University Health Care System. “This honor shows that their efforts do not go unnoticed. University’s tradition of caring continues.”
Ginny Martin, president of NRC’s Ticker Division, said winners are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings collected in the company’s Healthcare Market Guide Ticker study. Of the 3,200 hospitals named by consumers in the study, the winning facilities rank highest in their Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs), as defined by the US Census Bureau. The Ticker study surveyed more than 250,000 households representing more than 450,000 consumers in the contiguous 48 states and the District of Columbia.
“Health care has become an increasingly important issue across the country and empowered consumers are making decisions for themselves and their families when selecting their health care facilities and services,” Ms. Martin said. “In the face of adversity, Consumer Choice Award winners exemplify the dedication it takes to provide quality health care to their communities, and we are pleased to honor them through the eyes of their patients.”
