Hospitalist Group Reorganizes to Better Serve Patients
Augusta, GA – A new group of hospitalists began practicing at University Hospital Oct. 1 as employees of University Medical Group.
The group of 12 will continue to provide round-the-clock care in the hospital. The practitioners in the group are all board-certified physicians and are committed to high-quality care. Dr. Vanessa Cabaron has assumed the role of Medical Director of the program. The new physicians in the group are Michel Tanios, M.D., who recently completed a residency in Internal Medicine at LSU; Atlaf Aman, M.D., who has several years experience in both outpatient and hospital settings; and Abiya Mekoya, M.D., who has been in practice at University for six years.
The other established members of the group are: Jitendrakumar Patel, M.D.; Ashish Amin, M.D.; Veeral Lal, M.D.; Cheryl Leslie, M.D.; Purav Parmar, M.D.; Chetan Patel, M.D.; Nanik Ram, M.D.; and Vishal Sharma, M.D.
“Hospital medicine is quickly coming into its own as a specialty, with emphasis on the acute phase of care delivery,” explained William Farr, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at University. “Increasingly, outpatient practices and specialists whose practices include inpatient work rely on the expertise of hospitalists in managing the broad range of problems presented by the higher acuity patients seen today.
“We welcome the new arrangement and the new, closer alignment of this important group of physicians with our medical staff and hospital.”
