Experienced Cardiothoracic Surgeon Joins University Medical Group
Augusta, GA— Timothy Hunter, M.D., a board-certified surgeon with more than 20 years of clinical experience, has been named Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at University Hospital. He joins William Kitchens, M.D.; Cliff Kitchens, M.D.; and Michael Watts, M.D., with University Medical Group Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Dr. Hunter is a graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.; the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio; and Brown University School of Medicine in Providence, R.I. He completed his General Surgery residency at Swedish Hospital Medical Center in Seattle and completed fellowships at Allegheny-Singer Research Institute and Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was Associate Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Northside and Trumbull hospitals in Youngstown and Warren, Ohio, from 1998-2004; and practiced with Cardio-Thoracic Surgical Associates in Pittsburgh from 1997-2000; Yoon and Hunter Cardiothoracic and Vascular Associates in Youngstown, Ohio, from 2000-2004; and Associates in Cardiothoracic Surgery in Youngstown from 2004 until earlier this year.
Dr. Hunter was Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine from 1999 until earlier this year and Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Humility of Mary Health Partners at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown from 2004 until earlier this year.
Dr. Hunter is a Fellow with the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and maintains memberships with a number of professional organizations, including: the American College of Surgeons, Ohio State Medical Association and Mahoning County Medical Society.
In 2006, Dr. Hunter was honored with the Cardiac Service Award from the American Heart Association.
