University Health Care System Plans
Prompt Care Facility in Aiken
AUGUSTA – University Health Care System executive boards approved $2.7 million Thursday, Aug. 27, to build a prompt care facility in Aiken on 7.2 acres the system owns on Silver Bluff Drive.
“University sees more than 20 percent of our patients from Aiken, so it just makes sense for us to provide care for them closer to home,” said Scott Ansede, vice president of University’s Professional and Provider Services.
Research conducted by University shows that a prompt care facility in Aiken could expect to see nearly 9,000 patients the first year of operation, with that number growing to about 14,000 patients by the fourth year.
Mr. Ansede noted that many of those patients are currently being seen in the emergency department, which traditionally is a higher cost of care with longer wait times to be seen.
Construction of the Aiken Prompt Care is expected to begin July 2015 pending Aiken Planning Commission and City Council approval.
