About the endowment
S. Michael Shlaer, M.D., a medical oncologist who practices at University Hospital,
established the Art Patchin Jr. Endowment in 1993 in memory of his friend and patient, Art, who
lost his health care insurance during his battle with cancer. The purpose of the endowment is to
assist patients who are faced with the same loss. All of the funds raised for this endowment
stay in our community and provide needed financial support for insurance coverage.
