Chamber of Commerce members, public officials and University physicians and staff crowded into the newly opened Surgery Center of Columbia County on March 15 to meet the staff and tour the facility.
Located in the heart of University Health Care System’s Evans campus, the ambulatory surgery center is a joint venture between a group of experienced physicians and University Health Resources. The center has been operating for about three months, but the open house event was its official introduction to the community.
The nearly 21,000-square-foot outpatient day surgery facility is managed and operated by Alliance Surgery, Inc., a respected company that has developed, managed, financed and consulted with more than 100 ambulatory surgery centers and 80 hospitals over the past 25 years.
Speakers included Ron Cross, chairman of the Columbia County Commission; Charlie Neal, CEO of Alliance Surgery, Inc.; Newton Bates, M.D., general surgeon and the surgery center’s medical director; and master of ceremonies, Andrew Lasser, Executive Vice President of Business Development for University Health Care System.
Dr. Lasser said the surgery center is an important part in University’s ongoing commitment to Columbia County.
“This is an exciting new chapter in the evolution of the Evans Campus,” he said.
