North Augusta resident Helen Field was recognized in March by the University Health Services Board for 50 years of faithful service as a member of the Volunteer Board of University Health. Ms. Field became an active volunteer at University Hospital in 1957, shortly after moving to North Augusta. She began the first Volunteer Board newsletter in the 1960s and worked with a number of hospital services throughout the years, most recently at the Main Information Desk and the Cardiac Cath area. Ms. Field has also served in a number of Women's Board/Volunteer Board Executive Committee positions, including two terms as president in the 1970s. In 1981, the Volunteer Board bestowed upon Ms. Field an Honorary Lifetime Membership. She has chaired the membership and orientation committees for the past 12 years. She was an original board member of University Health Care Foundation, and serves on the hospital's Institutional Review Board.
"In addition to volunteering her time and talents over the past 50 years within the walls of the hospital, she has been an active supporter of University Hospital in the community," said R. Lee Smith Jr., chairman of the University Health Services Board. "Her dedication this hospital and our patients and visitors is unmatched. We appreciate her tremendously."
