Volunteer Services
of University Health

Your time is a valuable resource with the incredible potential to help others. How would you like to make a personal investment of your time in a place that makes a difference in our community? Hundreds of men and women of all ages have found fulfilling volunteer positions and have provided much-needed services at University Hospital since 1949. University is blessed with an amazing group of volunteers. Since 2000, University Volunteer Services has contributed $3.5 million to the hospital, 457,574 hours to our patients and staff, and managed more than 650 Junior Volunteers. In 2011, volunteers donated 38,043 hours of service in 37 departments and contributed $183,000 to hospital programs, equipment and initiatives. Whether assisting departments that support patient care or being involved in fundraising efforts, University volunteers make an impact on our community. Their efforts are priceless.

Volunteer Board

University certainly could not offer the same level of services to patients and their families without the support in hours and dollars of our Volunteer Board. In 2010, these Volunteers donated 37,700 hours of time in 30 departments throughout the hospital. They also contributed $193,954 to support University services and provide many "extras" for our patients, plus $100,000 toward their Foundation capital campaign pledge for the Heart & Vascular Institute.

Junior Volunteers

Teens age 14-18 may participate in our Junior Volunteer program. Since the annual program begins in early summer, interviews are held in April, with an orientation in early June. Junior volunteers are expected to serve at least one day (eight hours) a week during the summer, with additional opportunities available year-round. Interested young people should contact the office by Feb. 21 of the year in which they hope to volunteer.
