The Volunteer Board of University Health is celebrating its 58th year of service to University Hospital. As members of the not-for-profit organization, these men and women have raised and contributed more than $6 million for the hospital through the Board's businesses, but their value is priceless as they support the staff in their efforts to bring comfort to patients and their families.
In an average year, the volunteers provide 33,000 hours of services in 30 different areas. Among its various enterprises, the Board operates the Sunshine Gift Shop. Its Web site is the shop's most recent expansion. Stocked with hundreds of special items for patients, families and visitors, the shop has been a popular retail location for more than 30 years.
The online retail version of the store introduces its wonderfully diverse and thoughtful merchandise to a broader audience. Whether shopping for yourself, a patient, a caregiver or a friend in need of cheer, you will be pleased with the quality gifts provided by the Sunshine Gift Shop. All proceeds from the shop are used to benefit Volunteer Board projects, so your purchases benefit our patients in multiple ways. Projects in recent years have included the Mobile Mammogram Unit, the child-friendly décor in Emergency Services and most recently, the purchase of a Bilimeter machine for the nurseries in the Women's Center and the purchase of a state of the art computerized microscope camera for the laboratory.
