Breast Imaging Navigator

If you need a breast biopsy, you might have questions and concerns. At University Hospital, we provide you with a breast imaging navigator. They will explain the steps of your medical procedure, how to care for yourself afterward and help you to understand your medical recommendations.

What education will the Breast Imaging Navigator provide?

  • Information your doctor will need prior to a biopsy
  • How you should prepare for the day of your procedure
  • How your procedure will be performed
  • What you can expect to happen during and after the procedure
  • When to expect results
  • Information regarding genetic screening for high-risk patients

The Breast Imaging Navigator will check on your recovery following a biopsy and answer questions you might have. Her services are provided to you free of charge.

Cindy McNeil, Breast Imaging Nurse Navigator

In July 2012, Cindy began her nursing career with University Health Care System in the Emergency Department. She joined the Breast Health team in June 2021 as the Imaging Nurse Navigator. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Governors University in February 2021 and an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Aiken Technical College in May 2012.

As a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, she spent 28 years as a graphic designer in the CSRA. After experiencing a cancer journey personally with her husband, Tim, she pursued her new career in nursing. She strives to educate patients and calm their fears while reminding each patient that because they are having a biopsy does NOT mean they have cancer. Her goal remains to always be a patient advocate, regardless of the needs, as she knows from experience the value of advocacy.

She enjoys her grandsons, photography, gardening, fascinating hummingbirds, and the Georgia Bulldogs.
