Volunteer Board

The Volunteer Board of Piedmont Augusta is celebrating its 70th year of service to University Hospital. As members of the not-for-profit organization, these men and women have raised and contributed nearly $9 million for the hospital through the Board's businesses, but their value is priceless as they support the staff in their efforts to bring comfort to patients and their families.

In an average year, the volunteers provide 37,000 hours of services in 37 different areas.

Among its various enterprises, the Board owns four retail and service-related businesses including Sunshine Gift Shop, Magnolias Breast Health Boutique and the Hair Salon at University. In addition, The Volunteer Board also contracts to provide many other services such as the Food Court, the Bistro, Scrubs and Beyond Uniform Shop, vending services through A&A Vending and other special event fundraisers.

The benefit of offering such a wide variety of retail solutions on the campus of Piedmont Augusta is that the Volunteer Board is able to give much of its proceeds to the hospital to improve overall patient care. Projects in recent years have included the Emergency Department expansion and renovation project; the Orthopaedic & Spine Center; the Heart and Vascular Institute's Heart Cart; the Breast Health Center's Women's Wellness on Wheels Mobile Unit; a 3D Mammography for the Breast Health Center; and a significant gift to help establish a Donor Breast Milk Bank in the Special Care Nursery located in the W.G. Watson Women's Center.
