Evaluation & Diagnosis

After giving their medical history, the patient receives a physical examination that is supplemented with blood tests, radiographs (X-rays), computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MRI) scans or bone scans.

The surgeon talks to the patient about their symptoms and medical history then examines the affected area, as well as related areas. Radiographs are commonly obtained to view the affected area and CTs and MRIs also may be ordered.
