Prostascint Scan

Where do I register?

You may call 706.774.2125 to pre-register if you prefer. Please report to Central Registration in The Outpatient Center at your scheduled check-in time.

Where do I park?

Please park in the Outpatient Parking Lot off the main circle to the front entrance of the hospital. Inform the attendant at the gate when you enter the Outpatient Parking Lot if you need shuttle service. If you need wheelchair assistance, please park in the main hospital parking deck.

What is the Prostascint Scan?

A Prostascint scan is a nuclear scan of the prostate gland and surrounding structures. It is used to check for the size of the prostate and any infection or tumors.

You will have an IV inserted in your hand or lower arm to inject a radioactive substance. The radioactive substance will remain in the body temporarily until it is passed through urine or stool. There is no danger to you or anyone else during this time. You will receive the first scan 30 minutes after the injection. The procedure will take about one to one and a half hours on Day 1. Before leaving on Day 1, you will be given a bowel prep kit with instructions on how to use it. You will take the bowel prep at home and return to the hospital four days later to complete the final scan. On the final day, you will need to register again with Central Registration prior to coming to the department.
