About The Art Patchin/Will Weston Celebration: This special event was created 1993 by Michael S. Shlaer, M.D., a University Hospital oncologist, in memory of his good friend Art Patchin Jr. Mr. Patchin fought a long battle against cancer, and during that time, lost his health insurance. Dr. Shlaer wanted to create an endowment that could help others who found themselves in the same situation. Will Weston IV, who was a personal friend and steadfast supporter of the Art Patchin Jr. Endowment, was named to the event after he died in October 2011.
About The Dennis Memorial Golf Tournament: This event was created in 2009 by golfing friends of Frank Dennis III who died in 2009 from a malignant melanoma. In 2014, the event was combined with the Patchin/Weston Celebration. The friends and family wanted the money raised to stay in his community to help cancer patients ease their financial burden while going through treatment.
